the teachings

In 2005, Imam Fode Drame realized that the best way to share what God had blessed him with would be to establish an independent platform to disseminate his teachings globally. This conviction led him to found Zawiyah Foundation. Since then, the foundation has established Qawsain Knowledge House (Vancouver's only certified Muslim school), Qawsain Higher Education (a higher education program for adults), and has opened various branches in the United States and abroad.

preparing the heart

The most distinctive feature of Zawiyah Foundation’s methodology is that it recognizes embodiment as the highest form of interaction with knowledge. This specific approach promotes a harmonious intercourse between the human heart and the divine endowments.

In the true spirit of this approach, two types of interactions with knowledge can be recognized. The first -- and the highest form -- is the direct embodiment of knowledge, where knowledge is embodied, assimilated, and produced. The second form of interaction is the retention of knowledge for the purpose of passing it on as faithfully as it was received.

In our methodology, we recognize the need to reform the heart before exposing it to knowledge for the purpose of interaction and embodiment -- while for many others, retention seems to be the priority.

to connect with God

The purpose is to foster a triangular connection with God by: (1) embodying remembrance (
dhikr) which leads to familiarity with God (uns), (2) embodying God’s word which leads to love (hub) and (3) embodying gratitude (shukr) which leads to God’s pleasure (ridwan).
